Ascent Trip ReportFrom I-26 you can take either the Temple Hill or Flag Pond exit(depending on whether you are coming from Erwin or Asheville) to access Rt 352. Rocky Fork Rd is on the North side of the bridge crossing over Rocky Fork Creek. Drive 0.8 mile up Rocky Fork rd to gate at trailhead for the new Rocky Fork Wilderness area. Follow good gravel roadbed on the N side of creek past several small waterfalls. At about 0.7 mi take the right fork and begin ascending woods road. Follow road up to fork at about 1.6 mi and again take right fork uphill. At about 4 miles reach crest of ridge. Start slight descent to junction at about 4.2 mi just beyond some boulders to the right. Take the left fork here. (The right fork leads in a figure 8 towards Frozen Knob.) Descend for a while keeping left at next junction. Eventually start uphill again cresting ridge below Wilson Knob at about 6 miles. Game trails lead up through open hardwoods to Summit.
