Ascent Trip Report

A moderately easy climb on a woods road followed by a bushwack to 2 different summits ..... 3.8km, 1h40 hours RT including the time required to verify/check the coordinates of both summits.

After climbing Mont Proulx we found our way to Roxton Falls and traveled south on hwy #241 for 10km to a left turn (east) onto 3ieme Rang Est. At 300M we parked at the gated woods road on the left, rows of neatly piled firewood on the inside, this is the TH.
When studying the climb to the Acton County Highpoint I decided the easiest/surest way was over the summit of Peak 285 (which was not in the PB library so I submitted-it for Greg's approval). Today's destination, therefore, was the Highpoint of both summits.

I walked up the woods track due north, stayed left at the fork, to a height-of-land (about 100 feet of flat) at 1km. A little-used track on the right leads generally east a short distance then a bushwack to the summit of PEAK 285 at about 500M (I went directly to a false summit on the ridge, looked for the higher ground and continued to the obvious Highpoint). My GPS read 45.49382, 72.53260.

From the summit of PEAK 285 I took/followed a magnetic compass reading of 15 degrees, at 400M it brought me to the summit area of the ACTON COUNTY HIGHPOINT. Just before getting here I descended a moderate/rough/rocky/short slope, followed by a somewhat flat area where I found a blue blazed line of trees running generally east-west. One of the trees had a sign "Prive". I would like to think that this blue blazed line represents the Acton/La-Haute-Yamaska County Line, but one can't be 100% sure.
I identified the Highpoint of this area at a spot, about 50 feet north of this blue blazed line, my GPS read 45.49639, 72.53224. Pretty darn close to the PB coordinates, however a few other spots could contend for the Highpoint (as reported in earlier reports my GPS altitude reading is not at all consistent/accurate).

The woods are open and easy to negotiate, however the footing is rocky and rough, I pink flagged my whole route including the 2 summits. I estimate the distance from the TH, over peak 285, to the Acton County Highpoint at 1.9km.

UPDATE #1 DATED 2017-05-12
A new, higher in elevation, COHP has been found to the southeast. See COLLINE DE LA ROCHELLE (Acton Bump) TR.
