Ascent Trip Report

I led Jay Peak & Big Jay hike on 10/2/2010. Ruby, Dominika, Carol and Scott joined. Also, Julie led her hike on the same day at the same location. She had Jim, Tim, and another woman. Julie's hiking group had plan to thru-hike, but, they couldn't. So we decided to hike together as a big group. From Rt 242, it's 1.7 miles to Jay Peak summit, it took 1 hour 10-20min. We took a big brake at the summit building. (Ate lunch, relaxed) Then, we left there and moved onto LT North w/ Ski Trail. We reached the 2 wooden fences. When we over these fences, we entered to Big Jay area. The Long Trail eventually diverged, left one is herd path which brings us Big Jay summit and right one is Long Trail North (reach to Canada boundary). We took herd path and reached Big Jay around 1:20PM or so. We signed on Notes in the glass bottle. (Unfortunately, Big Jay canister is dissapeared and glass bin was there.) We took pics and left and came back to Jay Peak. We took a break again, then, hiked out to RT 242. The herd path toward Big Jay was VERY muddy.
