Ascent Trip ReportHaving spent the night nearby at the very pleasant friendly Alpenhof (N47 27.549 E13 22.876) in Sankt Martin am Tennengebirge, we decided on this easy drive-up to srfat the day. After a dull start the clouds lifted as we drove through E through Radstadt. A street turns N off the high street, signposted Rossbrand. After crossing the bypass (highway 320), turn E and continue 0.7km then turn L (N) at N47 23.181 E13 28.226, On Rossbrandstrasse. This well surfaced steep winding scenic mountain road ends at a car park near a hut (1720m). From here a trail climbs steeply SW for a short distance to the ridge then more gently W, past a bench, to the summit, where there is a large cross (N47 24.930 E13 28.737 GPSr, 1771m, close to the expected value of 1769m), and some signboards depicting the view which apparently should include yesterday’s summit, Hochkonig. These signs and the fixed telescope seemed superfluous as we were in cloud, but the sky cleared a little and we enjoyed a fine view of the pinnacle summit of Grosser Bischofsmutze to the north, although its taller neighbour Hoher Dachstein remained hidden. We returned to the car then headed to Hoher Sarstein.
