Ascent Trip ReportWe parked at the Trout Creek gate and started out on the direct route, past Fountain Place, that goes straight up drainage on the west side of Freel. Instead we bushwhacked across Trout Creek and found the trail to Armstrong Pass. We could have taken this trail from the gate where we parked.
Trail is well graded and after Armstrong Pass it traverses the west side of Freel to the 9,700 ft saddle on the NW side. From there the summit spur trail climbs up to the summit.
On the way down, we headed directly west from the saddle on a well beaten way trail back to Fountain Place. The trail is very sandy and was excellent for descending.
