Ascent Trip Report

The first of four trails heading north from the Ski Valley Rd. between Arroyo Seco and Taos Ski Valley. Trail head well-marked with sign along highway. All four of these trails feature steep ascents up narrow canyons with frequent stream crossings. Nothing resembling technical climbing or exceptionally challenging for an experienced hiker, but probably not appropriate for the casual stroller looking for an easy walk in the woods. I'd recommend decent boots and a hiking pole for all four of them. They get heavy use but are less crowded than the trails starting at the Ski Valley or the Williams Lake Trail. Expect snow at higher elevations well into June. I hit heavy snow drifts that turned me back just below the ridge line at the top.
