Ascent Trip Report***Sierra Club Wilderness Adventure Section Outing***
Our "dayhikes" group was joined by two backpacking groups on a chartered bus. We were driven to a campground in Mammoth Lakes (north side of highway into town just across the street from McDonald's) where we spent Friday night.
Saturday morning we were driven into the park; we waited about an hour at the wilderness permits office for the two backpacking groups to get their permits and orientation talks. Our two reserved campsites at the Tuolumne Meadows Campground were located about 1 mile away from each other so we had to wait until noon to get two sites adjacent to each other. We, along with our dayhiking gear, were dropped off at the campground entrance where we departed on a quick, very easy trail to Lembert dome via the east side of dome. After returing from our hike, we met the bus at the campground entrance where we toted our gear about 0.1 mile into the campground (they wouldn't let the bus drive in). We camped in the "A Loop", sites A31 and A32.
