Ascent of Observation Peak on 2010-08-27| Date: | Friday, August 27, 2010 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | Observation Peak | | Location: | USA-Oregon | | Elevation: | 7340 ft / 2237 m |
Ascent Trip ReportI drove south at Jackson Gap from FR 20 and parked along the east side of Observation Peak. I hiked up the steep rocky slope to the summit and enjoyed the great views. There is a register on the summit and it enjoys frequent visitors. The PCT is just a few hundred feet from the summit, so I guess PCT hikers make a detour here to bag a peak. There is a benchmark on the summit and the witness markers carry the name "Sterling". The main benchmark is gone but the base of it is still there.
