Ascent of Gilbert Peak on 2010-08-21
|Date:||Saturday, August 21, 2010|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||13442 ft / 4097 m|
Ascent Trip ReportHiked to Dollar Lake in the morning, set up camp, then summited peak. Final ascent is a talus slog. Be sure to contour the drainage and stay away from the Gunsight Peak/Gilbert Peak saddle as this will add mileage. There is no route to the top. We saw a few random cairns that did not seem to go anywhere. Routefinding is easy however as you are above timberline. RT mileage from our campsite at Dollar Lake was 5.75 miles. There is a summit marker on top, but no register. There are also two USGS witness markers. Views of King's Peak and the surrounding drainages are spectacular.
