Ascent Trip Report

Our Day-2 hike is between Madison Hut to Lakes of the Clouds Hut. Our original plan was to peakbag 2 mountains, Mt Jefferson and Washington. But one guy in my hiking group proposed to grab Clay Mountain (Clinton?) between two peaks. 3 out of 5 hikers ended up to grab Clay Peak.

We started hike at 7:55AM after eating nice warm breakfast at 7AM. We had oatmeal first, then, pan cakes next. We had apple sauce, coffee, tea, coco etc, too at Madison Hut. We had steady hike pace and reached to the juction of Gray Knob Cabin at 8:40AM and Edmond Col around 9:43AM which is 0.4 mi before summit and steady steep ascent. At the summit of Mt Jefferson, I met 2 of my hiking friends who came from NY for 1 day Presi. Traverse from Hudson Valley Meetup Group. I took a pic with Karen, one of these two. After headed out from Jefferson, we reached to the entrance of Loop Clay Tr at 11:24AM. Clay hike wasn't bad at all, it just took out some energy from me before aiming Mt Washington. :-)

We continued hike on Gulfside Tr and eventually I reached to the railroad and I hiked in parallel with it to get to the summit of Washinton. Will, Rene and I reached to Mt Washington summit at 1:10PM and we took several pictures at the highest peak. We waited Fred and Sharon at the restaurant/souvenior shop at the summit for a while. Some ate warm pizza, some ate cold shake type of drink. I decided to buy fleece jacket because I didn't have any fleece with me for this Presi Traverse 3 days hike. We left Wasington and reached to Lakes of the Clouds at 3:30PM. After we offloaded our backpack, we went out from Hut to Lake and enjoy event time with cheese, salami and drinks as our happy hour before 6PM dinner. It was another great weather day hike and I really enjoyed my first Presidential Traverse hike with great hiking mates.
