Ascent Trip ReportThis was my first backpack so still wasn’t sure if I would like it. This would be our tough elevation gain day of around 4200 feet. I didn’t weigh my pack before hitting the trail but I knew it was heavy. It would only get heavier, especially the climb from the Galehead Hut up to South Twin. We hit Galehead first and had lunch at the Galehead Hut. Mmmm turkey stew! The climb to South Twin is 0.8 miles and 1,100 feet. It was tough but not as terrible as I was fearing. Great 360 degree views from there! We dropped our packs and hit N Twin. We then took the Twinway and Bondcliff Trail to the Guyot campsite as clouds were rolling in. I was hoping to see sunset from West Bond but was denied. However, we got a tent platform and I had some more garlic potatoes so things were good. Then we got poured on! Lots of rain! There was little to do but stay in the tents and try to stay dry and listen to the thunder. My tent isn’t as waterproof as I thought it was but we stayed mostly dry.
