Ascent Trip ReportLeft the Denning PA around 9:20 and enjoyed a cool, clear morning for hiking. The ledge from below the summit provided a great view of Doubletop, Balsam Lake, and Slide. After reaching the summit, I headed to the saddle and made it to the boulder on Peekamoose much faster than I had expected. I had read about the new (but illegal) view from near the summit, but I wasn't sure where it was located. After trying to find it unsuccessfully, I started the return trip with another hiker that I met at the summit. As we backtracked to Table, we met another hiker who had knowledge of the "new view". I decided to return to Peekamoose with him and it was worth it. The view is accessible from an unofficial trail that is about fifty feet south of the summit. The view includes Ashokan High Point, Wittenburg, Friday, Balsam Cap, Rocky, and the Devil's Path. Bill and I took the trail back to Table and arrived at the Denning PA around 3:15. Total Distance (with backtracking) - 10.97 miles
