Ascent Trip Report

Hot & dusty horse trails on the way in with CHC, HFC, Emma & I. I was hoping to get up to the meadows below Klickton Ridge on the first day and have a shot at the peak Sunday, but we stopped at Surprise Lk to set up camp and enjoy the evening. Sunday we took a hike up through the subalpine meadows (@6200ft) and up to Klickton Ridge. Stopped at a benchmark and took in the view of Gilbert & surrounding terrain (elev @ 6800'). Fantastic weather - sunny & warm with a nice breeze. Reluctantly we had to head back down & pack out, competing with more horse traffic. I'm not sure the best approach route: we took the S. Fork Tieton River / 1120 trail (starting from Conrad Mdws). Probably will opt for another route next time. I'm not against horses mind you, just that they tend to mash up the trail making for squishy (and harder) walking and dust.
As it turns out, this trip was the last one with my sweet golden retriever Emma-Blue who passed away the day before thanksgiving. Thanks for all the great trips Emma!
