Ascent Trip Report

Spent the night at a hotel in L'Anse. The hotel manager (owner?) was a nice man and provided me good information about how to get to the summmit of Mt. Arvon. He had a map of the area posted in the lobby and he showed me the fastest route to get there. This was valuable info for me as the online info was somewhat confusing. We headed out L'Anse the next morning out Main Street until we got to the turnoff he had described (there's a church on the corner). Fortunately, there were Blue markers that took us all the way to the top. It's recommended you have 4-wheel drive, but we were able to make it to the top in our Dodge Grand Caravan. The rode got pretty rough as we got toward the top, but we made it to within 1/2 mile of the summit and hiked the rest of the way up. At the top, it appears a Boy Scout troop has maintained the top and there's a nice setup. After we signed the register and took pictures, we noticed a tail leading from the summit to an overlook of Lake Superior. It was a great view (you can't see to much from the actual summit). We walked back to our car and began the drive down. I tried to watch for the Blue signs going back down but made a wrong turn at one point, going a mile down the road before turning back. I had a suspicion when I made the initial wrong turn, so was able to get back to the correct road fairly quickly.
It was a beautiful day. HP #11
