Ascent of The Thunderer in 2010
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||10554 ft / 3216 m|
Ascent Trip ReportNo bridge over Soda Butte Creek. Waded at crotch deep in August. Strong current.
Used good trail to unnamed pass then followed NE ridge. Couple exposed spots, and the rock was wet and mossy in places, but only class 3. When the ridge became class 5 I bailed to the E following easy ledges(and a family of goats) to an E ridge which led to the top.
Went over to the 10420 summit and then down the W side. Kept cliffing out. Lots of regain. I can see why mr Divelbiss(see other report) ran into trouble here. Eventually bailed out to a susidiary ridge to the S. Last 300' to the valley floor was steep and brushy. Strange day in that the descent seemed to take more effort than the way up.
