Ascent Trip Report

You can actually make the ascent of Mount Davis more interesting if you make a hike out of it!

Started out from the Mount David Picnic Area on the High Point Trail (far right side of the picnic area). 4 minutes in (0.2 miles), took the Tub Mill Trail - left off High Point Trail. Descended for about 35 minutes to ~2,850 feet, when the trail started ascending again. However, it continued to descend reaching ~2,560 feet 56 minutes into the hike. After crossing Tub Run (2.25 miles), I took the Timberslide Trail right off of the Tub Mill Trail. Timberline Trail, connected to Shelter Rock Road where I took a right after 1h10m (0.5 miles). Shelter Rock Road is a grass covered track (0.4 miles). At 1h16m took a left on Shelter Rock Trail up to the summit (1.0 miles) passing Mount Davis Trail at 1h33m - note: Mount Davis Trail does not actually go directly to the summit. I reach the Mount Davis summit at 1h38m, then picked up the High Point Trail for the 9m (0.8 miles) hike back to the Mount Davis Picnic Area.

Bottomline, if you want to make this ascent interesting, you can descend for an hour and end up getting 650+ feet of vertical gain.
