Ascent of Backbone Mountain on 2010-08-08| Date: | Sunday, August 8, 2010 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Motorized Transport to Trailhead: | Car | | Peak: | Backbone Mountain | | Location: | USA-Maryland | | Elevation: | 3360 ft / 1024 m |
Ascent Trip ReportMost diffocult part of this ascent was finding the trailhead. It is literally 0.5 miles beyond the entrance to the Little Church road. A jeep track heads off the left as Rt. 219 bends right.
Easy to Moderate hike following the jeep track most fo the way to the summit. Where the trail diverges from the rocky path, it is well marked by cairns. Although faded, there are distinct markings, such as "HP ->" on many larger trees.
There is little spur off the trail to mark the state line between WV and MD. Took me 24m30s to reach the summit. Not much to see, escpecially with light fog, but there is the Hoye-Crest placard to mark the summit. Also, sign the log book in the mailbox.
Made it down in 18m22s.
Temp ~65 degrees F
