Ascent Trip Reportnote: I've decided that adding all man-powered distances and elevation gains into my ascents would count even if it included cycling to the location.
I lingered in my sleeping bag that morning. I got out around 7:45am and made breakfast. I then packed and left by 9:00am. I stopped a bit to talk with the man at the front desk before riding on.
The going was relatively easy but it was already hot and it was still very hilly. When I got to Saint-Adrien, I took HWY 216 towards Ham-Nord. Following the road, I then took a right onto Chemin Guertin (which is still HWY 216, but gravel). From there it was a long uphill until I reached the access road that leads to Montagne à Simoneau's summit.
I hid my bike and trailer in the ditch and started walking uphill. It was really easy on a gravel trail with wild raspberry bushes along the way. Near the antenna, I could hear a generator going full power. When I got to the clearing, I could see the antenna was not at the actual summit. At first, I located a place where I thought the benchmark would be, but didn't find it. I walked around the compound without luck and even checked some other rocks. I finally went back to the place that definitely looked like the summit and saw it. I had just missed it the first time. I then walked back down the road to my bike and ate some snacks.
This is the easiest of all 5 summits I visited this weekend.
