Ascent Trip Report

From US 50 just east of White Pine county milemarker 22 take a right turn(south) onto a graded road signed for "Green Springs" follow this 2wd road for 3.5 miles to a "y" jct, take the right fork for Green Springs and follow for another 11.6 miles to a rough high clearance road signed for "Monte Cristo". Follow this road for 3 miles to the ruins of Monte Cristo (a large crumbling brick smelter is all thats left). Park here, elevation 7300ft.There are several side roads here and some are marked private. I followed a road that headed east and started up the ravine due east of the ruins, it will switchback up the hill to mineworkings at point 9628ft. From here you can see the summit ridgeline, just pick your way up through trees and low brush to the ridgeline and follow it due south to the summit. If you take the mine road that works its way west of point 10724 and ends at elevation of 10100ft, you will be closer to the summit but it is a steep climb on loose rock and soil, I dont recommend it.
