Ascent Trip ReportThe road to the top of Rib Mt. was closed for construction, but that just made this wonderful hike a more worthy one. After parking in the Granite Peak parking lot, Siemers and I began hiking straight up the main face under a chairlift. I have not skied here before, but it looked like a great place for the Midwest. After we had met up with the road on the top, we followed it past a sightseeing deck and began to see the quartzite towers. After three or four, we finally found the one with the plaque and sign that proclaimed it as the highest. Siemers refused to crawl up to the top, seeing as it was slippery rock, and the fall was about twenty feet on one side. I made it to the top, though, and although my view was hindered by trees, it felt like a very successful highpoint. We then climbed the lookout tower nearby and then returned to the car.
