Ascent Trip Report

Who wants to work on a Wednesday? Not Anne and I! We decided to pull a BobC and go hiking instead of going to work like the rest of you suckers. Razz We stopped at Peg’s in Woodstock for breakfast and I think the big breakfast gave us extra energy for the hike. The weather forecast and the pouring rain during our drive up had us worried that we wouldn’t be hiking but the weather gods played nice. We crossed the hairpin turn and got maybe 50 yards into the hike when I realized I had forgotten our sandwiches in the car. I went back to get the food and we’d start again. There are lots of stream crossings which was fun. We had the trails to ourselves except for one other group of hikers, a father and his two young sons. I love hiking in the middle of the week! It’s a mellow hike until the last 0.5 miles to the summit. Whoever cut the trails didn’t seem to believe in switchbacks! But that got us there pretty quick. We had lunch on the south summit before tramping through the mud to get to the equally socked in north summit. No views for the day. We gingerly made our way down from the north summit with its terrible path of loose rocks. We debated whether it would be better to do the loop clockwise instead. Any opinions on that out there?

It was an easy hike back to the car. It started sprinkling on us as the road came into sight. When we got right next to the car the gods realized we were done hiking for the day and opened up the skies for us. Best timing ever for the end of a hike! We brought stuff for tailgating and luckily this trailhead has a covered seating area that kept us dry and happy. Anne made some burgers with green chili mixed in that were the best tasting burgers ever! That was #34 for me and #17 for Anne.
