Ascent Trip ReportA friend and I decided to try and give Pikes Peak another try since it had been almost 5 years since I had done it the first time. On day one, we hiked to A-frame and spent the night (tree line - around 10,200'). We found out later that you are suppose to make reservations to stay in the shelter but no one bothered us. The city lights from Colorado Springs were impressive. Overall the trip was tough, Pikes isn't technical at all but its nearly 13 miles with around 7,400' elevation gain one way! I can remember conversation stopping several hours before we made camp the first day and almost none again the second. Air was a precious commodity, especially with the weight we were carrying.
