Ascent Trip ReportHad a great time hiking along the Appalachian trail to reach Virginias High point. This was HP # 21 for me. The ponies were fun to watch and hiked for a little while with a few people from North Carolina. Summit was a little confusing--it would be nice if they'd put a sign to say you've reached the top of Mt. Rogers since it's not really obvious. There were some trails that led into the woods after the summit but kind of petered out into nothing. After returning I noticed the USGS marker embedded in a rock so finally realized I was in the right spot. The best part of this hike is definitely the lower part of the hike before you ascend into the trees about 1/2 mile or so from the summit. Spectacular views the whole way. One of my favorite hikes I've been on!!
