Ascent Trip Report

A short easy hike/bushwack ..... 2km, 45 minutes RT.

The gate was open on this day, a bunch of balloons hanging from a tree next to the gate signaled a birthday party. I hiked up the dirt road due south about 1km to a large clearing, passing a new house half way up with a number of people out partying/enjoying the weather and scenery, which from its location was spectacular. No-one questioned my presence so I presumed the owners are ok with hikers.
At the clearing a recently opened rough road leads to the left up to the top of a low ridge, to the left is another of those Hunter's Shooting Towers. From the top of this ridge I took a 230 degree compass reading and bushwacked (very open) about 70M to the USA/CA Boundary Swath.

An orange "Survey Marker 489.5" on the Canadian side marks the spot, the actual highpoint of this area is a few meters in the trees behind the Survey Marker (my GPS reading for this spot was 45.30196, 71.28424). The next eastbound Survey Marker was 489.4 (again on the Canadian side), I omitted to check the next westbound Marker.
My GPS reading of the highpoint on the Boundary Line for "Boundary Monument 489.5" was 45.30235, 71.28417.
A little used track follows the Boundary Line Swath in both directions.

From Saint-Isidore-de-Clifton find you way to Saint-Mathias-de-Bonneterre on route #210. From the church drive east on #210 for 8.7km to a crest in the road and a private dirt Road on the right ..... it is gated with a surveillance camera. Park on this corner, this is your TH (even though you could drive to the clearing).
