Ascent Trip Report

Beautiful but very hot 4th of July. Everyone else bailed so I went this one solo. Started at the Gardens at 9:30am and was at the summit via The Brothers by 1:00 pm. Back to Garden by 3:30 pm. Along the way I met Phil and Kathy and their two dogs Deagen and Fiona. There were about half a dozen people at the summit including a man named Bill which one of the other people recognized as an author. Saw a pheasant and a garter snake. While waiting for the shuttle a guy that rode the same bus in as me and did Porter said he saw a bear cub. I had planned on doing the loop down the JBL trail but took The Brothers back because Bill and I chatted on the way back.

As a side note I noticed some people that let's just say didn't seem well prepared near the TH with one empty plastic bottle for water and a guy filling it from the stream. I asked him if he was planning on drinking that water and he said yes. I was under the impression that the water is unsafe to drink due to what the locals call Beaver Fever. I wished them good luck and finished my hike.

Also this was my first encounter with a ladder system to aid in ascent and descent.
