Ascent Trip Report

Woke up 4:30AM packed, awoke Danny and left docks at Rockwood at 6:10. Drove to town where we followed the ragged unpaved road Rapid Stream Road looking for bridge that crosses stream. Drive to area was 2 hours 45 minutes but had trouble finding brige crossings. There was not good signage and there was a camp with an inhabitant near the TH that appeared to be squatting. Still, after crossing the old bridge with my suberban and wondering if I would brake through - we parked car and found the marked TH marker.

Very steep trails and rugged in places. 2.8 miles to Fire Warden hut and 4 miles to summit. Upper 800 feet of climb some easy scrambling and boulder pathfindings. Steep climbing. Trail was semi mantained. A club tried to keep it well maintained but a lot of winter tree fall made it filled with down obstacles. Lots of seepage bogs along the way and 6 stream crossing going and coming back. Danny fell 8 times! I hit my head on branches 3 times. Summit has Fire Tower legs but no top. Bald peak so good views in all directions but not as spectacular scenery as Katahdin or Borestone.
