Ascent Trip ReportThis was my first hike where I rode my motorcycle to the trailhead. I had a solid 3.5 hr ride up from Boston. I was camping at white lake in Ossipee that night, so I dropped my Motorcycle jacket and helmet off at the campground so I wouldn't have to leave the at the trailhead. While riding without a helmet is admittedly dangerous, it feels awesome to have the wind in your face that way, and I only had to be on smaller back roads, not on the highway, so I didn't feel it was too dangerous.
I started hiking around 10:30, quite a bit later than I had hoped for, but I woke up late. The hike up Whiteface was pretty uneventful until right near the top, where there came some top notch viewpoints, and some nice short rock scrambles; one was surprisingly difficult. I didn't see any blueberries on blueberry ridge. Oh well. The trial across to Passaconaway was also pretty uneventful. I think I missed the first branch off to the summit of Passaconaway. The trail up to the summit was quite steep and tiring. The viewpoint rock right near the summit was a nice place to stop for a quick lunch. Being solo that day, I didn't feel the need to stay long, so I only stayed maybe 15 minutes. Found the spur to the real summit, found this to be a really silly summit. The spur just kind of ends in the woods, and it barely feels like a summit at all except for the tiny hump you are on.
Anyway, the trail back down seemed shorter than on the way up, and after getting a bit confused by the signage, I managed to find the Walden Trail. On Walden and Wonalancet Ridge trail, it started to rain a little bit, but the thunderstorms that were supposed to have rolled in never really formed, much to my luck. The Mt Wonalancet Trail seemed quite a bit longer than I had expected, and this whole hike tired me out more than I had expected, so I was getting a bit tired of hiking towards the bottom. I think riding the motorcycle made it quite a bit harder. When I finally got to the trailhead in the morning, my legs already felt a bit tired, and my shins were rather sore already.
Arrived back at the trailhead at 4PM, so about 5.5 hours for the whole thing. Rode back into Ossipee and met my friends at the white lake campground and had some excellent food cooked on the campfire.
