Ascent of Lookout Mountain on 2010-06-20

Date:Sunday, June 20, 2010
Ascent Type:Successful Summit Attained
Peak:Lookout Mountain
    Elevation:6525 ft / 1988 m

Ascent Trip Report

I drove up from Hwy 35, Brooks Meadow Road, and then Lookout Mountain Road. I drove up to about 5,600 ft before being blocked by snow drifts. I hiked up the snow covered road to Bennett Road and then just hiked crosscountry on snow to the summit. I think there is a nice trail under the snow, but I never found it. Hiking up the snow was ok because it was consolidated and not too soft. Near the summit the snow was still probably 5-6 ft deep. The summit itself was mostly clear and there were great views except to Mt Hood. Hood had its head in the clouds. This would be a great hike to repeat on a clear day just for the views.
