Ascent Trip Report

Road to trail head demands high clearance and good nerves, but great scenery. Fairly easy ascent except for problems finding trail amid downed trees. Hiker's Guide to Enchanted Circle claims it's three miles each way, but I doubt that because it took me under an hour coming down.

From parking area forest road goes downhill about a mile (there's a confusing intersection about half way--veer left (counter intuitive--looks like the wrong way). Reach another intersection at one mile, go straight ahead. After a few hundred yards trail starts up steeply. Lots of downed trees block route and make finding trail confusing at times. Look for cairns--some collapsed, I rebuilt a few. Just below top you emerge above tree line and hit a steep boulder field with some scrambling. Wind was fierce.
