Ascent Trip Report

Note: The trail to the summit has moved from where it was printed on the USGS topo maps. The trail to the summit now follows the ridge at 11,200' and goes over North Baldy.

This was another fun hike with the 3H meetup group from Phoenix. I'm glad I went with someone who had done it before and knew about the trail change.

The hike was a very scenic one - all along the river valley there were beautiful views of the river, the overlooking peaks, some wildflowers, and dense forest growth. The trail was in good shape (there were only a few large log obstacles) and easy to follow, except at the junction (marked by posts which used to hold signs) where the trail now takes the ridgeline. At that point, the route to the East Baldy trail (and the old route to the summit) was the only obvious route, but if one goes around to the west, the new trail becomes clear.
