Ascent of Ragsdale Butte on 2010-05-15| Date: | Saturday, May 15, 2010 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | Ragsdale Butte | | Location: | USA-Oregon | | Elevation: | 4803 ft / 1463 m |
Ascent Trip ReportI drove up from the West Branch Elk Creek Road. 2WD ok. I hiked up the ridge through some second growth trees about 20 ft tall. I hiked over the hill labelled Ragsdale Butte on the topo and continued north along the ridge to the high point. As I approached the high point, I saw that it was on top of a rocky out cropping about 40ft high. I traversed left along the west side of the rocky summit and then up to the north side of the high point. There is a nice little narrow rocky ridge out to the high point. It isn't technical, just narrow with some loose rocks. If snow or ice were on the summit, it would be a dicey little scramble. Great views, pretty area.
