Ascent Trip Report

A very wet trail in the col between East and West Royce.

For directions to the TH see East Royce Mountain TR.

From the Y trail junction south of East Royce Mountain the trail climbs west about 100 feet before dropping to the col. It is wild, rough and exceptionally wet through here, from the col the trail climbs to the rocky summit of West Royce Mountain. Good views to the south.
I took a few short snack breaks during the hike.

I got back to the TH and Rose in less than 4 hours after a 6.2 mile hike (both peaks). We chatted with a few other hikers and after cleaning up we drove to the Cold River National CG just north of North Chatham. Tomorrows hike, a traverse over the Baldface Range, starts just south of this CG. Only two other campers in for the night. I have been spraying for bugs at the start of my hike on a daily basis but overall they haven't been too bad.
