Ascent Trip ReportThe second easy/moderate climb of the day ...... 1.6 miles, less than 1 hour RT.
From the Sugarloafs Rose and I drove south on #302 to the junction with hwy #16 at Glen, where we took a left turn on #16 and traveled north for 2.5 miles to Jackson and a left turn on Green Hill Road. After 1.1 miles arrive at Iron Mountain Road at the left.
Drive up the dirt Iron Mountain Road, as it ascends fairly steeply to a height of land at 1.5 miles and a small TH parking on the right.
The Iron Mountain Trail starts just ahead to the left ...... a white sign "TRAIL" points the way. It climbs accross a grass field before entering the woods.
The wooded rocky summit offers limited views through the trees and I question what it is doing on "52 With A View", it must me from the old days. The concrete foundations and wooded beams are remnants of a structure (tower ?).
Not recommended unless of course you are a Peakbagger after Lists.
Tonight we will overnight at the Dolly Copp CG on Hwy #16, just north of Pinkham Notch and across Imp Face, tomorrow's climb. We sleep in our Dodge Caravan. We stopped in at the AMC Pinkham Notch Visitors Center on the way.
"I'VE LEARNED THAT YOU CAN KEEP DOING THE CLIMBING YOU WANT TO DO ..... LONG AFTER OTHERS THINK YOU'RE TOO OLD."
