Ascent Trip ReportA really fascinating walk to the Marne HP.
First find the village of Verzy, southeast of the beautiful city of Reims in Champagne. Locate the road D34 leading uphill out of the village (also signposted Faux de Verzy) and as the road becomes less stepp, pull off left into the car park called Parking des Faux (this turn off is actually a crossroads, perhaps easier to locate Mount Sinai observatory which is well signposted in the opposite direction.
There are several mapped 286m spot heights in the area, which is rather flat. One lies on the main road at the next forestry road junction after the parking turn off. You can visit at least 2 more by following the marked trail around the Faux de Verzy themselves - Red beech trees with a genetic abnormality which makes them grow in amazing contorted shapes. Well worth a visit in their own right, as a natural curiosity. See http://verzy.verzenay.online.fr/bienvenu2.htm for details.
My guess as to highest point is by the information board at the far end of the Faux de Verzy walk but there are several other candidates.
