Ascent Trip Report

***Solo Hike
Peaks: Indian Mountain (5790') and Lily Rock (8000'+) in that order
Stats: (Total) 9.0 mi RT, +2900' gain, with a drive in between
each peak

BREAKDOWN
-Indian Mountain: 6.0 mi RT, +1300' (+800' TO/ +500' BACK)
via HPS Route #1
**Ran into one rattlesnake crossing the road on my way up
and a 2nd one on the side of the road on the way back.
No coiling or rattling. They slithered away from me.
Also saw some tracks left behind by other rattlesnakes,
inluding a broken-off rattle.

-Lily Rock: 3.0 mi RT, +1600'. Went up a little
differently than described in the HPS route. I started
on the Ernie Maxwell Scenic Trail and in 0.25 mi turned
left and went by a "Rock Climber's trail" (steep) which
ultimately lands you to the right of the prominent
rockslide that extends down from the center of the rock.
Once you get to the base of the rock, to your right
(southeast) is a worn pathway leading from the bottom
of Lily Rock. After following around the west face
and steeply up the back side I headed for the gully
described in the HPS Route #1 all the way to the saddle
and climbed easy Class 3 to the summit.

I descended via the Gully the whole time to make it a loop
hike.

The gully is very hard to follow in spots and it is the
worst gully i have ever hiked in: narrow, loose, fallen
trees, easy to loose track in spots.
