Ascent of Peak 3242 on 2010-05-31
|Date:||Monday, May 31, 2010|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||3242 ft / 988 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI accessed Peak 3242 from Elk Creek Road and E. Flat Creek Road. A couple miles up E. Flat Creek I took the right fork towards Gobblers Knob and Peak 3242. The road I wanted on the west side of Peak 3242 is gated a couple hundred yards up the road, so I parked and hiked the road. This road is undrivable because of all the blow downs across the road. There was a forest fire in this area and all the snags are falling down. The road shortly meets another road and I took the right fork and climbed up to the west ridge of Peak 3242. I continued along the road all the way to the north side of the peak where I picked another road that headed south towards the summit. I took another right fork and soon was close enough to the summit to leave the road and bushwhack up to the high point. Poison Oak was growing profusely on the summit. No views because of the brush. There were several piles of fresh bear scat though. Following the road all the way to the north side of Peak 3242 didn't really gain me much. I should have left the road when I was directly west of the summit and bushwhacked from there.
