Ascent Trip ReportWhat a great week even though the sun had not been out at all the entire week. Every day has had a brief rain shower. It has only lasted an hour or two per day and din't effect many views, so it was alright. It least it kept the temps down. The week started with an off day in Damascus where Soren and I managed to see a Southern Rock band at a place called the Side Track Cafe. It was nice to kick back, relax and have a couple German beers. We also managed to meet quite few fellow thru hikers. The next morning, being up for the hotcake challenge that they presented, I went in and made a new record of eating 8 hotcakes! (the size of 3 pancakes each). After that accomplishment, I had to hit the trail again and hiked until 10 at night and set my tent up right in front of the shelter since the shelter was full. Hiking 15 miles after 24 pancakes was impressive. The day after I climbed around and over the highest mountain in Virginia, Mount Rogers. What made this mountain especially nice was the fact that cows and horses were grazing in all of alpine terrain around the mountain. I did get a few nice pictures of these animals in the trail and in the fields surrounding Mt. Rogers.
