Ascent Trip ReportStarted to rain just as we were getting close. There was a lot of muddy and submerged trail sections as we approached the top, and with the thunderous-looking clouds rolling in, we could have easily gotten discouraged, but we sprinted up the last 2/10 of a mile because we were just too close. We were very glad we did because the view from Rose is fantastic, especially the view looking east towards the Uncanoonucs and the ledge drop off of Joe English Hill. Great spot and definitely on the return list.
On the way down we noticed the rain had brought out HUNDREDS of orange salamanders - we had never seen so many before. We also hadn't planned on the bugs, but with the rain we had to keep moving quickly anyways, so it didn't matter much. The Helen Trail forms a loop so we were able to descend down another part of it without having to back track the way we came up The Pinnacle, so the descent ended up taking no more than 30 minutes.
We were very happy about the trip out to Rose!
