Ascent Trip Report

My 34th Ontario County Highpoint, a short road hike ........ 1.3km, 35 minute RT.

Located at the northwest corner of Lanark County, White Mountain is a very short woods road hike. For Peakbaggers the nearby "Peak 384" can be easily climbed on the same trip (as the crow flies it is only 1.5km).

I was in Ottawa visiting family so I took this opportunity to bag this summit. I drove west on Hwy #417 to exit 155, then southwest on Hwy #49, March Road (at Almonte it continues as Lanark County Road 16, Wolf Grove Road) for approximately 38km to a T Junction with Hwy #511 at Hopetown. Turn right (northwest) on #511 and travel approximately 18.5km to a left turn on Campbell's Road. Drive on Campbell's Road (dirt) for 4.1km to a Woods Road on the right.
Turn right on this unsigned Woods Road, drive 200M to first fork, take the left fork and travel another 1km to a second fork at a height-of-land (my GPS coordinates 45.17595,-76.63530)...... the right fork climbs the ridge (north) to White Mountain and the left fork continues on to Peak 384 ...... park here, this is your TH for White Mountain.

From the TH hike (north) up the ridge on the Woods Road, once you attain the ridge (and what appears to be the Highpoint, old foundations on the left side) the Road continues and descends and dead-ends at a shallow col at about half a km (in hiking this road I found out that you can actually drive to here). From this col continue north on an overgrown logging road for 150M to the Highpoint in the middle of the road (my GPS coordinates were 45.18105,-76.6381). No views, the bugs and huge horse flies were really bad, stupid-me had no bug spray.
This area is mostly a deciduous forest, through the trees I was able to identify Peak 384 to the southwest, my next destination.

"THE MOUNTAINS WILL ALWAYS BE THERE, THE TRICK IS TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE TOO."
