Ascent Trip ReportStarted at 9:00 am from the Sugarlands Visitor Center (Smoky MT Nat'l Park HQ) and climbed to the Summit of Mt LeConte (see route below). It was a pleasant day (probably actually a bit on the cool side even for late May). Rainbow Trail is fairly steep and the wet Spring made the trail somewhat slick at times. On the plus side, there was plenty of water along the way. Rainbow Falls and Bull Head trails meet about a mile blow the summit and form the northern terminus of the Boulevard. I finally reached the peak a little after 5:00 pm. After the summit, I retreated the short distance to the LeConte shelter where I spent a very cool night. If I am not mistaken, there was frost on the ground the next morning. Shelter is in good shape. Please note that the Park Service does not allow campfires on LeConte because too many people have damaged trees in oreder to get firewood.
