Ascent Trip Report

I did a counter clockwise climb over Welch and Dickey. Overall it is moderately easy, except for last section after the open rocky Welch shoulder on way to the summit and the section between Welch-Dickey ..... steep rock slabs with some scrambling.
Spectacular open summit ledges and one of the most spectacular exposed granite slabs in all of the Granite State, really awesome. I believe the safest route is a counter clockwise loop, especially during wet or inclement weather (ensure proper foot wear). ...... 4.4 mile loop, 3 hour RT.

According to The White Mountain National Forest literature, in the 1850's Nathaniel Greeley, a business man who had pioneered the Waterville area, created a network of trails in the area for summer visitors to his Inn. This was the first true network of trails in the White Mountains.
There is a 3$ user fee at the Self-Service-Box Station.

To get here from I93 exit 28, travel east on Hwy #49 past Campton for about 5 1/2 miles to a left turn on Upper Mad River Road, travel another half a mile to a right turn on Orris Road. The White Mountain National Forest Welch-Dickey TH parking is on the right at half mile.
