Ascent Trip Report

On the way up, we took a ridge one too far east. While we could have taken that north to the east ridge of Clark Mountain, we decided to cut across to the next ridge to the west for a more direct route. Once on the east ridge of Clark Mountain, there was a nice knife-edge ridge. One could bypass the last half of that ridge by taking a use-trail down to the traditional class 3 route up the far side. Once on top of that, it was easy class 2 climbing to the false summit just east of the real summit, then class 1 the rest of the way.

On the return, we initially took the standard route (below the class 3 section), then crossed back over to the ridge just north of the picnic area. By sheer luck, where we traversed, we saw a well-preserved plane wreck with parts still resting in trees.

Overall, a fun but steep hike.
