Ascent Trip ReportSolo trip; late start (10:30am) from Crawford Connector trailhead. Followed Crawford Path up to Mizpah Cutoff, then lost the trail due to blowdowns and a foot of fresh snow. Bushwhacked up to meet the Webster-Cliff Tr at the South Peak of Pierce, but lost the trail again and bushwhacked to Pierce. Trail from Pierce to Ike was well-marked with cairns and easy to follow.
Along this section, I met four groups of people, all heading back down after giving up somewhere beyond the Mizpah Cutoff junction. The first was Rich (fellow AMC hiker) who was headed to Jackson, but lost the trail shortly after the AT junction on the other end of the Mizpah Cutoff. Next up were a father and daughter who lost the Crawford Path above the cutoff, followed some bushwhack tracks that only circled back onto themselves. The third was an AMC trail maintenance person (who I've seen on the trails before) - he followed another set of trails and turned back when it got into tough bushwhack territory. The fourth group left the trailhead nearly the same time as I. We went up together from the cutoff, but they eventually turned around shortly after the South Peak, at the hardest part of of the bushwhack.
