Ascent Trip ReportAnother easy Woods Road hike to the summit.
One of the mountains in the name "Lake of Two Mountains", for a better description of the area see TR for Parc d'Oka Highpoint.
From the TH on Montee du Village (southwest of Saint-Joseph-du-Lac) I hiked (southeast) cross country around the west edge of the apple orchard for about 200M to a Service Barn where a good Woods Road climbs/winds generally southwest before making a long bend to the left and heading east to the open summit's Observation Tower at 2km ..... a real surprise (Goggle Earth clearly shows this route and the Tower). This privately owned/built Tower, heavy wood construction, about 20 foot square and 40 feet high offers views in all direction. Another apple orchard is on the slopes to the west ...... Overall it is an easy 4km, 1 1/2 hour RT.
Permission to access this summit is probably a good idea, however on this day a man with a tractor was working near-by as I hiked around the orchard and he didn't say anything to me.
At the Service Barn there are large signs offering the visitors different options, owned/operated "Les Verges du Belvedere", pick-your-own apples, carriage rides to the summit's Observation Tower and hiking trails. For a fee and during the apple harvest season of course. You can drive to the barn from the center of Saint-Joseph-du-Lac, take Rue de la Montagne (just south of the church) .4km to a dead end, a Dirt Road continues to the Service Barn and connects up with the Road to the summit.
DIRECTIONS TO THE TH FROM MONTREAL.
From Montreal travel west on #640 to exit #2, travel north on Chemin Principal for a few kilometers to the village of Saint-Joseph-du-Lac and a left on Montee du Village (after the church). Drive southwest on Montee du Village to the end of the last apple orchard on the left (this is about 200M before the Montee du Village first bends to the right. A farmers entrance exists at the end of the orchard, this is the TH.
"SUCCESS IS THE SUM OF SMALL EFFORTS ...... REPEATED DAY IN AND DAY OUT."
