Ascent Trip ReportThis hike to the highest point in Texas was made on a crystal-clear fall day. I was with my dad, Tom Vaughan and his then stepsons Dave and Patrick Roland. Dave is my age (14y/o at this time) and hiked with heavy, army surplus boots; he was very tired at the top. I remember sprinting to the summit ahead of Pat (around 11y/o at the time) and grabbing the ornate summit cairn. I then proceeded to call my then g/f Jennifer Myers from my mom's antiquated Fujitsu cell phone; I thought I was really cool.
