Ascent of Grays Peak in 1998-06
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||14270 ft / 4349 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThis (and Torreys) were my first 14'ers. I hiked with my dad on a perfect summer day. The trailhead brought us relatively close to the treeline, giving us a full view of the two peaks for most of the hike. I remember feeling some slight effects of the altitude hiking up the switchbacks on the summit pyramid, but felt quite strong. After some time at the summit, we traversed the saddle connecting Torreys and summited. This ascent was short, but difficult over steep, loose rocks. Looking across the saddle to the hikers on the summit of Gray's, only 3' higher, was an incredible experience. This is still my favorite hike (17y/o at the time.)
