Ascent Trip ReportSee reports on cohp.org for approach to Beech Mountain, the Sullivan County highpoint. From the height of land on the north side of Beech, leave the road and descend slightly to reach the connecting ridge. This ridge narrows in places to only a few feet, with extremely steep, almost cliffy drop-offs to the east and nice views. For easier hiking contour below the ridgline to the west. Eventually you will pick up an old woods road that leads to within 0.15 miles of the summit of Mongaup before bypassing it on the west. Bushwhack up the south ridge of Mongaup through open woods to the flat, viewless summit. Out and back from Beech took about 45 minutes.
