Ascent Trip ReportThis was a hair raising high point. We were on our way back from La Courte Orielles and made the detour for the highest bump in our state. There were thunderheads above and huge storms forcasted and on the horizon. We parked in the county park at the trail head to the observatory and began walking up. We found the highest point and the benchmark with ease and then walked to the top of the observatory. It was quite a view under black skies in the should-have-been bright afternoon sun. On our way back down the trail, the sky opened up and the rail was coming down like a faucet. We began running and made it back to the car only a bit wet. Back on the roads, the t-storms took hold, and we even saw a decades old tree blocking our lane on the highway. Close call, and a short but sweet victory.
