Ascent Trip ReportFrom Galveston County Highpoint we found our way to Baytown and traveled north on Hwy #146 to Mont Belvieu in the northwest corner of Chambers County (I10 exit 797, east of Houston).
We turned left (west-southwest) on Winfree Road, in the middle of a huge industrial oil-refinery area, and drove a short distance to a driveway on the right and the gated-entrance of the signed "Texas Brine Co LLC", the whole area is completely fenced-in. ...... the Highpoint is north of here about 200 yards in a wooded area.
I thought of inquiring at the different offices but I believe it would have been a waste of time .... I'd probably would have to go all the way to the CEO located elsewhere (fat chance of that happening).
Today was more of a touristy/points-of-interest-type hurried-day, we visited 6 County Highpoints, with no climbing to speak of. From here we drove north back to The Woodlands and our son's home on 19 Crestone Lane.
I must note here that I did not visit the other highpoint candidates for the different Counties listed in PB, I have no way of measuring their exact elevation and therefore find the exercise somewhat aimless.
"CLIMB THE MOUNTAIN AND GET THEIR GOOD TIDINGS. NATURE'S PEACE WILL FLOW INTO YOU AS SUNSHINE FLOWS INTO THE TREES. THE WINDS WILL BLOW THEIR OWN FRESHNESS INTO YOU ..... WHILE CARES WILL DROP OFF LIKE AUTUMN LEAVES." ......John Muir
