Ascent Trip Report

Martin County, north of Midland, was my final highpoint for this trip, and it wasn't in my original plans. Bob Martin suggested I try for this county as it was easy, legal and with good road access. He supplied me a copy of the topographical map.

I drove south on state route TX-349 from Lamesa, then followed Martin County Road D-2651 south of the community of Patricia, and parked south of a low but distinct dune, the Martin County highpoint. I hiked across ankle-high scrub to gain this swell of land, then walked its spine to the top. The map says there's a benchmark "Sandy" nearby, but not at the highpoint area. Once satisfied, I walked back to my truck.
